Too bad it isn't in the energy storage line.

Well, to get things back on track, I went out with a real team to do the Northern Wall and Fort Ranik missions and I actually did not embarrass myself. I was the only Ele/me of the team with a w/mo, a r/mo and a n/me.

Since I was told that Elementalists are the 'nukers' I stayed back and cast lava fonts and fire storms (and before you poo-poo those, remember that is ALL I HAVE), but perhaps my favorite spell, and I'm certain experienced players will shudder is the Mesmer spell Conjure Phantasm. When I cast that I notice the health bar on the target falls fast and the other members of the team can quickly and easily finish the enemy off. So I'll pick the nastiest of the enemies, cast conjure Phantasm on them, then cast Lava Font or Fire Storm. .... maybe I should have been a mesmer =\

I would like to remind people again that at this point I'm only level 11 and I have very limited spells to work with, so as much as I'd like that elite spell, I don't have it and won't for awhile. I have to work with what I've got.

But... a lot of advice here has been great and gave me the confidence to go out with a real team and not henchment.

Thanks for that.

It's understandable that you'd like Conjure Phantasm and consider it so effective because the enemies you're facing now have little health so degen is more effective.

As you progress into the game, you'll realise that Conjure Phantasm is useless on an ele and that if you want degen - you'd get much more (without running into another attribute line) from burning which you can achieve with every fire skill and your fire staff/wand with [skill]Mark of Rodgort[/skill]

I wouldn't worry about embarrassing yourself too much. You sound literate and friendly, so you've already got that on 50% of the internet.

Well... mesmers are actually pretty weak in PvE. Degen hexes are pretty amazingly weak, while AoEing things is pretty strong. Granted, firestorm and lava font aren't that great, but given time you'll be way stronger than a mesmer.

Anyway, like Zenrgy said, burning will outperform hexes any day.

Mesmers are more for players who enjoy interrupting stuff or throwing down the right hex at the right time. In PvP, they're the class for people who love to watch the other team curse.

Take the MB vs SF stuff elsewhere. They are both viable but that is not the point of the thread.

The advice here has generally been fantastic and I thank you all for it and for taking the time to reply... and also not to mock me too much. I appreciate the restraint. LOL.

And Dr. Strangelove, I'm a writer so I may be a bit more literate than most. The WGA strike has put me out of business for now so until the AMPTP and the WGA come to an agreement, me and Guild Wars are going to be close friends. It's a fun and addicting diversion.

My character is a level 12 now. I've been applying my skill points toward energy storage and fire for now, because currently fire spells appear to be my strongest, although when I get more air or water spells, I'll try those, too. Someone posted a build called "Blasty McBlasterson" or something like that. It looks like a good build to try out. I love that Guild Wars makes it easy (and fun) to try many different Ele builds.

I did notice that at this point in the game, I haven't run across any strong/difficult enemies. Charr strength lies in their numbers and not any single character. At my level, one on one or even two or three on one they're easy to take down. I'm aware that as the game progresses, I'll have to get smarter as my enemies become more difficult.

My last mission was the Ruins of Surmia mission and the team I was with kicked butt. What a fun mission. I didn't run out of energy in the middle of a skirmish as I cast with care and made sure what I cast helped out the team the most. Perhaps I am getting the hang of this.

P.S. I have no clue what a pug is in relation to this game... last time I checked it was a little dog with a curly-cue tail and a flat face.

That's great to hear! I'm glad you're enjoying Guild Wars and elementalists! Definitely sounds like you're getting the hang of it. Keep going, and don't hesitate to ask questions

Hey, I've played elementalist for 2 and a half years. My in game name is dark lord nitemare, and I'll give you a ring and help you out a bit! If you need a bit of money or items don't hesitate to ask those around you for help. This community is not completely dead.

Hey, thanks! That's very nice of you to offer. So far, money in this game doesn't seem to be a huge issue, I've been able to get enough by selling items from quests and missions. I was able to replace my Krytan (did I spell that right?) armor with Flameforged armor. I don't know how good it is compared to other elementalist armor, but it's better than I had and I'll keep it until something else comes along.

I've been too um... shy to ask anyone for anything. So far my pugs (now that I know what that means) have been good and that's probably luck from what I'm hearing. For the Ruins of Sumria the leader had a lvl 5 Warrior, but I believe it was a secondary character because she led us right through the mission without a hitch and we got all the bonuses.

I'm in the Diessa Lowlands right now with three henchmen and we're doing well. Had a lot of skirmishes with Charr, Hydras, Gargoyles and those irritating devourers (I HATE those) without any deaths. I'm trying to a quest to get some ashes and I keep getting lost. How embarassing.

Air and Water Magic are more PvP oriented. Air magic applies several conditions, a good amount of single target damage, and other things. While the conditions are helpful, the single target damage will be helpful in most of Prophecies, but in almost all areas of the other campaigns, there will be mobs of enemies.

Water Magic consists mostly of snares. It does mediocre damage, and the spells cost a lot of energy. Snares aren't effective at all in PvE, but it tes PvP.

I believe you're choosing the correct course for your elementalist. If you would like to be more of a support character, then Earth Magic is good fun. It's a wonderful balance of damage and defense.

Good luck

This is very helpful. Thanks. I'm not very interested in PvP so knowing that I'm on a decent track with my PvE character is probably the best thing you could have said. I hate to go off and spend a lot of time on something only to find out that it wasn't needed, or for my character it was a waste of time.

When I get a few more helpful Earth spells, I will indeed give an Earth build a whirl. I love new spells.

Earth is a really good option for prophecies only, although your elites aren't much to look at. You have fairly strong AoE with eruption, earthquake, good defense with ward vs melee, and a fun knockdown toy with stoning. Off the top of my head, this looks fun to play:

[skill]stoning[/skill][skill]enfeebling blood[/skill][skill]eruption[/skill][skill]earthquake[/skill][skill]earth attunement[/skill][skill]glyph of energy[/skill]optional[skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

with the optional slot going to obsidian flame or stone daggers. Sadly, the earth elites in prophecies suck.
